I have a craftsman 16.5hp riding mower. The blades stop turning at times and the thing starts to squeal real bad from the pully on the left side. After you raise the blade assembly it stops but starts again in high grass.

Thomas:
Are you trying to mulch in high grass? When you mulch your only suppost to be cutting 1/3 the the stant of grass. Have you looked under the mower deck? It sounds like you could have a bent blade. If the blades are OK then there could be a bad bearing in the left side. Don't let it squeal too much or you will need a belt also.
