Gardening and Horticulture - indian hawthorne and V. pittosporum

on the eastside of my house i have both plants. hawthorn is doing great, and the pitts aren't doing so well. on the noth side of the house, i have both, and it's opposite. pitts are doing well, and hawthorne isn't doing so well. i know these plants don't grow too fast, but it's been three years since they've been planted and i was expecting them to be larger by now. they get watered regularly. only thing i don't do is ferterlize them. would using miracel grow once a week(sundays) help? should i not water during the week, and then water and feed on sunday? i want a nice lawn, but these bushes are really gettin' me down. almost tempted to tear all of them out and get a landscaper to suggest something.... help....

forgot to mention, east side of the house get's more sun than you can imagine. northside get's some indirect light, but one corner is under an oak tree, and is somewhat shaded. in thta shaded part, the pitts are fine, but the hawthorne isn't too well.

As with many other plants, hawthorne does well in the sun. Pittosporum is shade to partial shade to sun. My guess it does better in the partial shade. I feed my shrubs every two weeks during the growing season to encourage their developing bush and roots. I buy them small and encourage them to grow. I use Miracle-Gro with the hose end sprayer, because I have so many to feed.

Other than the rain, this is all the watering that I do. My beds are mulched to keep the beds from drying out.

A hawthorne may take 5 - 10 years to reach full size, about 4 - 5 feet tall and as wide.
