Hello dear friends,
I am thinking to have some one install
gas or electric fireplace. So far I have seen
the electric fireplace puts out 5000
btu vs Gas fireplace which does up to 20000.
The price for Gas one seems to be around 2k-2.5K
and electric one is around 2k (full job). My main goal is to get extra heat in the house in winter time so that that my gas furnace does not go
on so often. (last winter I spent $$200-250
for my gas bills). Part of the problem is
poor insulation and old furnace. I am going
to see if I can improve insulation by myself.
The house is small and it is around 1500 sq feet
ranch. Last winter I used one of those
space heaters and i had to run it 6-7 hours
a day. The area of the house which I plan to add
this is the coldest part of the house. (the
breeze way which was turned in to dining room)
and the temp difference in that area makes
the other part of the house drop faster.
ps. my wife does not like wood stoves but i
know it gives the best BTU.
As always thanks for your help,
Alex

Id say look at the your fuel cost there first. Also the gas can put out more heat but dont forget it also has to have a flue and that will take air out of the home. Put the $$$$ in insulation first would help you;) ED

I think ED might have the best idea; spend your 2k on insulation.
Tell us more about your situation and maybe we can offer more.
