I have a Sears XL44 stove, with four burners. One of the burners fails to spark. The other three work fine.
Any ideas on how to diagnose the problem?
Thanks
Bill

Hello Bill. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
The problem could be one of several. Each has been covered in the recently asked question posted in the topic of "cooktop ignitors."
Reading that question and the possible causes will provide you with the information required to resolve the problem.
Often times when only one ignitor fails to spark, the problem is isolated to that specific sparker. Cleaning that sparker usually solves the problem.
The problem could also be a loose or disconnected wire or wire connection. Possibly too much water or moisture on the sparking switches. The sparking modual may have simply burned out and needs replacing. Turn of the electrical power or unplug the stove prior to checking any of these items.
Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers and stop in at the store. The info will help to determine the possible problem causes.
Regards & Good Luck.

Well, I disassembled the burner and then put it back together, and now it works again. Not quite sure what to make of that, but it works, so for now I am a happy camper.
Thanks for the advice.

Hello: Bill
Glad you where able to fix the problem. Also for returning to the forum and posting the updated info.
My suggestion would be to print and save the information and read the other subject questions pertaining to the problem. Print and save them also.
Basic reasoning is the problem may be fixed for the time being but may or most likely will return, since no part was found to be defective or replaced.
Next time the problem appears the correctional methods will be handy for a quick know how to fix it now situation.
