I have a Sears Craftsman lawnmower model #917 388400 which just started having problems. When I pull the cord,(takes several pulls to start, it will run for about 5 seconds then stop.
When it does start, I can see the housing on the top of the engine which the starter cord goes into, start to run erratically then slow & stop.
Any help/ diagnostics appreciated..thanks!

Jerry,

Remove the bowl nut holding float bowl onto carb,
you'll find a very small orifice/hole in the upper side,
or center casting of the bowl nut. Clean that good
with a piece of small wire that will go through it.
Maybe spray it good, also, with some carb cleaner,
and replace it. Try again, and see if that didn't do it.
MAKE SURE....fuel is clean and fresh, also.
