The new mower I baught last year just started running really bad!! It does not have a manual throttle so I'm puzzeled on how to fix this problem. It will rev up and down constantly, and when sitting still it idels fine but when you jerk it forward or backward it tends to cut out. Thanks ahead of time

It sounds like you have water in the tank. Can you see water in it?

I agree...I think you have either water in the tank (first guess) and/or a bad carburetor diaphragm. Cheap and easy to fix, let us know if you need help, and how it goes.

how do I know if it is the carb problem you say?

Thanks so much!!

Dump the old fuel out of the tank and try fresh fuel. If the problem goes away, you've found your problem :).

If not, post the model and serial #s of the engine for additional details/help.

The carb is about the only thing that can cause your problem. The carb diaphragm is a common problem on these engines and surging is the symptom of a bad diaphragm. Check for water in the tank though first.
