I have a Kenmore heat pump/AC unit. I believe the pipe to the drain pan is clogged. My carpet is wet in front of the inside closet unit and the filter is damp also. Can I fix this myself? I can see what I believe to be the drain pipe inside the closet to the left of the unit. It's where the AC man suggested I put bleach in one a month to prevent algea. (I've been doing it)

:( I think the problem you have is the trap is too shallow or missing....if its clogged just put a wet vac on the end of the pipe and suck it out. One way to tell also is to shut the unit off and see if it starts to drain water out....give it a minute or so and if water starts to come out, this will be the condensate pan emptying out....then remove the side panel and inspect the pan...if the insulation is soaked the fan MIGHT be pulling the water off the coil if its dirty....there are many things that can cause water leaks...investigate...if when you shut the air handler fan off water gushes out...the trap is too shallow...
