Hello,
#1. I just built a cabinet and am about to start finishing it. I used my brad gun for some of the trim, so I need to fill in some holes. Does stain react well with wood filler or should fill in the small holes after I stain?
#2. I like the look of the Mexican Rustic Pine furniture, it seems like they finish it with something like a wax. Can any one tell what it is called?
Thanks for any info

#1 Sometimes. I try to use a bit of sawdust from the actual wood mixed with a bit of glue and make a filler from that. Alternatively, filling after staining allows you to match the filler to the actual finish more accurately. Using brads that are colored on the ends is worth trying in finishing without filling and evalulating how the bare holes look. This sometimes benefits from carefully placing the fasteners.

It is a wax that you see on that rustic Mexican furniture! Wax was traditionally used to finish pine furniture. Click on this link for more info:

Check locally for an oil based color putty.....the stores here carry Minwax brand....comes in small jars and colors to match about any stain color. Works great to fill nail holes. Stain first, then use this, then apply finish coats

Check out Mylands a great source for all polishing and finishing needs.
They sell small filling waxes made by Liberon in many colours, almost guaranteed to match your stain. Just warm it up rub it in and when cool remove excess.
Good Luck
