I have a lennox condensing unit (outside house). The unit has a high-pressure switch. The switch keeps going off (sporatically) so the unit keeps shutting off. I can manually go out there and reset the switch and watch the fan. Sometimes the fan starts up just fine. Other times it needs a little help (I spin one of the fan blades). Is the problem definitely the fan motor?

Also, where can I get another motor? Can anyone suggest a good online store or something in the Dallas area?

other bits of info:

usually happens on *hot* days ( over 85 )
unit is about 20 years old
fan motor in unit looks fairly new (about 3 years)
fan motor runs hot (is it suppose to?)

The problem may be the condensor fan motor run capacitor. If the motor spins freely, suspect the capacitor first. Especially if the motor gets hot, that is another sign of a bad capacitor. It will be connected to at least one of the fan motor leads and may be part of a dual unit that the compressor uses also. It should have been replaced with the motor but may not have been.

ww grainger should have one, be sure to get the proper voltage and microfarads on the cap if it is bad. search previous posts to determine how to check the capacitor. let us know how you make out
