I would like to have matching tile throughout my home, currently have several different tiles & carpeting in connecting rooms.
Could I put a sub floor in the hall & living room to bring the floor height up to match the tile & retile right over it? Or do I need to remove the old tile by chipping it up?

you could do that but in the end it may be just as easy to rip out the old and go that way cause then you wo'nt have the heighth problems associated with bringing up the entire floor .If the tile are stuck real good with no holow sounding ones then you could probably get away with it.I s this a slab home?do we need to consider deflection and weight on the sub-floor?At the exterior doors woulld be the main concern, you,ca'nt really cut them, also the dishwasher do you have the heighth to get up to it and not lock it in?The toilets also you may have to extend the pipes and change the flange, alot to consider get back to us and let us know:cool:
