Hello - what a great resource this is! I am planning on building a loft bed as inexpensively. as possible. Also, I have very little experience with these things, so i am in search of an easy plan. I have a twin softside water bed (sits like a regular mattress, but has tubes of water intead of springs - it does not need to be encased in a box, like a regular waterbed) I think the bed weighs @ 175 lbs, plus me and rarely, another person, so I would like the loft to be able to hold about 600 lbs to be safe. I rent, so it would have to be a freestanding structure, with only the head against a wall. Also, I would like the "head-bump" point to be about 5' above the ground, so I could walk under it and possibly use the underneath for storage. I have a cathedral-style ceiling with a drop-down ceiling fan in the middle of the room. I'll need some sort of basic ladder that won't take up too much space. I am not too concerned with appearances; however, I am interested in untreated/unchemical wood. I was told that cedar is untreated, but I know it is much more expensive. I would greatly appreciate any assistence in any aspect of this project. I have been looking on-line and cannot find much on the subject. Thanks and have a great day!! ok to send email to: boxofjunk2002@yahoo.com

Also, there are a couple of loftbed plans accessible from the links in the "Free Woodworking Plans" sticky; I discovered them when I was trying to figure-out what I might do in a small bedroom; I do remember that I may have had to look in the kid section of at least one of the sites, one of the plans was from Disney's Go Network and that one of them used 2x6's or 2x8's as the supports which seemed a bit large for my purposes; And though, I haven't gotten around to that particular project, I do know that when the time comes, I will be combining the two plans and taking into consideration the one I saw at the unfinished furniture store.
Good Luck;
