How can I safely remove mildew from a painted collectible chest without ruining the detained scene?

Bleach/water solution is recommended for killing mold/mildew. Test in inconspicuous area for ill effects on colored paints. Lysol Concentrate is also a good disinfectant and should not have bleaching effects. Again, test in inconspicuous spot.
