I am building a low level deck, 16x16. The joists will be almost at ground level, can I get away with placing the joists directly on concrete garden slabs (600x600x50) or concrete bricks rather than have to dig footings.

Any advice on using slabs as a means of support rather than digging footings would be much appreciated. Does anyone know of a website which could help me ?

nigelh,

Issue is what about frost...do you have any? This is going to dictate what you need to do as well as what may be required in your area.

If footings are not done to accommodate the frost, it will be going up and down creating problems if this is attached to the home.

Good Luck!
