How do I close a "Stuck" shut off valve for a toilet? Ideas???

Sounds like it's been some time since the valve was last used. First thing I would do is to turn off the main valve. Then, drain the water tank at the back of the toilet.

If it has a plastic handle, take off the handle and then gently tap the stem with a soft headed hammer. This might free up the mechanism.

Failing that, you can take the valve apart and clean out the mineral deposits inside. However, with the low cost of a new valve, you'd be better off just replacing the valve. This would also be an excellent time to replace the supply tube with one of the new flexable metal supply lines.

I agree with Ted, replace the valve and supply line. It's a relatively cheap investment considering its overall worth.

I've spent all week in a home with nothing but sweat copper plumbing and no individual shut-offs. You bet that they have them now!
