Have a debate with my wife--she says floor tiles can be used as wall tiles. Do anyone have any knowledge on this or advise.

Any tile that is good enough for a floor is perfect for a wall, however most wall tiles would not make good floor tiles.
One rating system is the PEI (Porcelain Enamel Institute) rating of 1-5 . generally floor tiles should be at least 3 . All this has to do with is how much foot traffic a tile will take before it shows wear.
You are most likely thinking in terms of the size of the tiles with wall tiles being 6x6 or smaller and floor tiles being 8x8 and larger.
Size has nothing to do with it. Tile is tile and bigger is fine on a wall, now go apologize to your wife.
