Liquid paper can be a useful tool when working on locks. You can apply some to the center of the end of the deadbolt and then turn it against the jamb to mark the point you need to drill for the strike.
If your deadbolt does not line up very good with your strike plate, the liquid paper can be used to mark where it is hitting the strike plate and where you may need to file for proper clearance.
Use liquid paper only on exposed surfaces like the end of the deadbolt or it may gunk up the works.
Always check the tightness on your hinge screws first. Loose screws cause the door to sag and can cause problems with the locks.
