I just moved into a new home and I don't
think that our Metal Bathtub has ever
been cleaned properly. Does anyone know
how or what to clean this with?

Without lots of details, it's difficult to advise. However, if you feel that the tub is just dirty, then, get some Di-Solv-It and a green scouring pad and have at it.

Chances are it just a buildup of soils and soap from years of neglect.

This takes time, patience and a certain amount of elbow grease.

As a professional bathtub refinisher I must tell you that I have tried just about every cleaning product on the market. For a refinisher time is money and cleaning efficietly and quickly goes a long way with us. Your biggest concern should be not damaging the surface with abraisives or acids. A tub must be cleaned in two stages. First to cut through the soap scum body oils, residues etc..
1.Clean the tub with a mild solution of TSP and Water. Just a few dollars at any paint/home center. Excellent degreaser for body oils, soap scum etc. Use a scotch brite pad and be sure to wear gloves. Rise the tub then spray tub with white vinegar and water to break up hard mineral deposits. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Then scrub with scotch brite pad again, and rinse thoroughly. If you must use an acidic cleaner always begin with the mildest first. However, most people make the mistake of trying to clean the tub using a single stage method. Acidic cleaner will have little or no effect on the tub surface since they will not penetrate the soap scum which is a petroleum base residue. This is why acids are all packaged in plastic also a petroleum based product. USING ajax or an abraisive cleaner will expedite wear and tear. So get through the residue first with TSP and you will be amazed how well white vinegar will work on the mineral deposits.

Sounds good but now what is the best way to refinish a bathtub?
