I am in the process of repairing a couple of breaks in my deck support system and replacing the old PT surface with composite decking. I have now removed the old decking and notice that the short (my deck is just above grade) 4 x 4 PT posts are embedded in concrete. One or more shows some signs of deterioration - after perhaps 25 years.

Should I replace these posts?

Any advice on how to remove the PT material from the concrete?

Once removed, how would you recommend I install new posts?

Looking forward to replies.

MikeSky,

Some signs of deterioation means what exactly? If you don't trust them, cut them off at the concrete and then start to dig, drill out or whatever means to get all the wood out. Then use concrete and metal post anchors in preparation for new post install.

Good Luck!
