I have a home with a fireplace built with a beige color type brick popular in the 1960's homes. I want to change the color of the brick,.

Can I stain the brick to achieve the color I want? Will this work or harm the integrity of the brick...???

You can stain brick in couple of ways. One is using a mix of mortar color and detergent acidic cleaner. Two the easy way is with a masonry or concrete stain. I use Behr brand Masonry and Concrete stain from Home Depot. It can be tinted to any color and is painted right on the surface. If you want a more suttle look you can apply it with a sponge so the mortar joints are not colored.

Good Luck
