Starter froze due to water in recoil housing. I was going to buy a new one until I found out the dealer wanted to charge me $400+! I had a local shop rebuild it but when I installed it it makes a sound as if the starter is turning but the bendix is not engaging the flywheel. I didn't have the bendix rebuilt and I'm wondering if this is the culprit. The starter isn't freewheeling when hitting the button, sounds more like it's spinning with some friction, but the engine isn't turning over.

Polaris' have a starter drive that goes bad far more often than the starter. I used to know the part number but we dropped Polaris two years ago. That will fix you up.
