i want to plant some leyland cypress trees on my property line for privacy should i buy 3 gallon trees or 1 gallon . i hear they grow pretty fast so i was wondering if could save some money and go with the 1 gallon trees.

I usually buy the one gallon trees and other plants. With proper care and two week applications of Miracle Grow, they will grow rapidly during the growing season.

We started with 3 gallon last spring (because I found a really good sale) and they are 6 ft tall already. So, yes, they grow VERY fast.
I have heard that its best to cut about 1 foot off the top. It will stunt the growth (up) for a while, but make the trunk thicker and sturdier and the tree fuller. Is this true? If so, when it the best time of year to do it. I'm in NC.
