I have some very old, simple and not very valuable chairs in the house I am rebuilding. The chairs are simple upright dining type chairs, all wood with woven seats looking like reed. I guess the glue used will be something very basic like animal based but I cannot be sure.
I'd like some ideas to help me dismantle these chairs as they all need re-gluing and the seats remaking.

You can remove the seats, dampen the joints with warm water in a cloth, and the glue should release. That is if it is hide glue. This is rather a slow process. Hide glue is excellent for furniture because it can be removed or disassembled.
Hope this helps.
