Hi. I have a GE XL44 oven. The igniters seem to be electric sparking devices on the top of little ceramic cones. Suddenly they are confuse. When I try to light the front right, another will spark. The whole 'logic' of where to spark has suddenly gone wierd. Yesterday morning they wouldnt work, that afternoon it was OK, today its not!?

Q: What controls which spark goes to wher!? And how do I fix this??

Thanks In Advance.

Rob

Hello Rob. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Basically, if the sparkers are functioning, the spark module is okay. Same applies to the switches located on top of the gas valves.

All the sparkers will fire at the same time regardless of which top burner valve is turned on. If a specific burners sparker is not functioning, suspect only that sparker as having a problem.

Most likely the sprakers which do not always function are dirty. Cleaning them may or most likely will resolve the problems. Be sure to trun off the elecrical power to the entire appliance before attempting any cleaning, repairs, checking or testing, etc.

Read the existing questions on the subject of stoves with spark igniton problems on how to resolve the problem. Doing so will provide you with a wealth of information.

Additional Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for problem possibilities, causes and solving methods, part locations, repair procedures, instructions, pictorials, schematics, which may be available online.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be also. They will need the make, model and serial numbers.

Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
