Hello All:

I have a sony Wega 35 TV, not too long ago, I had a problem with an hi pitch humming sound at the rear of my TV. The TV was still under warranty and was repaired by a tech. The Tech claimed that it was a common problem and that the cause was "oscillating electronics". He had used some "electronic silicone spray" to resolve the oscillation. It did work and the humming disappeared. Does anyone know were I can purchace a can of this stuff? and what it's called? I live in Toronto.

Thank You

Typically (but not always) loose yoke windings are the cause of high-pitch whining. You can confirm by lightly poking at the yoke windings with a nonconductive stick while the TV is running and see if the noise changes or goes away.

I've sprayed some "hi-dielectric rated" acrylic conformal coating spray and quieted my coils in my 27" Sony 10yrs ago with no issues even now. The idea is 'sticking' the windings together so they don't oscillate.

The can of stuff I had was a sample I got from the manufacturer, but I've seen the equivalant at the local electronics shops around here for fairly cheap. Not sure where you'd find it in Toronto though..

Thanks for the reply Arron:

Yes, that makes sense; but, I'll be dammed if I can find any in Toronto Canada, I was hoping someone would know of a place or a web site that would sell me a can of the stuff.
I did find a web site in the US that has it; but, no shipping to Canada, bummer.

The yoke problem used to be common but not now. Now it's more likely to be a component on a board. We use silicone RTV glue and add a dab to the junction of the part and the board. Or the coils and core. Use a non-conductive probe to gently touch suspected parts. Also you can use a paper towel tube against your ear, to localize where on the board the noise is coming from.
But I would not start spraying around inside the set. Heatsinks need to breathe.

Dakota:

I concur; but, when the tech came in the first time, he did spray the yoke area and it did work. I guess when I moved the TV
I may have disturbed any bond that was in place. Regardless, thanks for the advise; but, I'm still hoping that someone will know
were I can gat a hold of the spray.

Thanks.

We dont use sprays. We use RTV it lasts for the life of the set. There were a few models that had a coil on the yoke but under a cover. RTV fixed them too.
