Read a message from aravere about transoms. I'm looking for a similar item. I want to put operational transoms atop the interior doors in a new house (w/ 10 ft CH and 36" openings). I found hardware, but can't find any OPERATIONAL windows. (Hardware at http://www.deabath.com/Hardware/Transomop/transomop.htm) All transoms I'm finding are for decorative purposes only. Any suggestions? (Besides salvage yards, which I am currently scouring). I am handy, but not at all confident that I could build transoms that would look good. Any ideas on why these windows are so elusive? They promote air circulation, are attractive, are still recommended by "green" building organizations, and high ceilings are not uncommon these days. Why do they seem to not exist anymore?

Forced air central heating/AC systems and ceiling fans.
You might be able to find some at salvage yards.
Good luck!
