Yesterday, we were watching TV when a thunderstorm came up suddenly. Before we could get the computer, TV's, etc. all turned off, we saw lightning outside, heard a POP at the TV, and the sound went out. You can hear some vague static sounds, but that is all. The picture is still perfect. However, if you put in a DVD, or a VHS, the sound is fine, so the speakers still work. Does it have fuses that may be blown, or something else that maybe we could replace? If so, what would we need to do? Thanks!

It sounds like you have a problem on your "UY" board. It is not uncommon when there are storms about. For more information contact me through our website.

If your DVD and VHS work OK with perfect picture and sound, the problem is likely from the IF detection area where the Audio signal is detected and splited out. Since you still have good video, the problem should not be too serious.
Since you do not have the schemetic or service manual, you might just want to do visual check to see if anything obvious, like blown or leaky capacitors or burned resistor on this IF board, especially when you heard a pop before the sound went dead.
