I am repainting my kitchen that I painted about 5 months ago (I don't like the color anymore). It is semi-glos Benjamin Moore paint and I am painting over it with the same. I have friends that have painted semi-gloss over semi-gloss, but they have had some problems with peeling when removing the masking tape. Is there any type of primer that I should use for this? Is this a bad idea in the first place?

Thanks,
Kevin

Repainting over the same paint is a good idea. I would wash the walls first. The kitchen is a dirty place, grease and all. I would use primer only if the original color is a stark contrast to the new color.

Masking tape should not be left on any longer than necessary. Be sure to use painter's tape, not plain jane masking tape.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I do use the blue painter's tape. I have had a lot of success painting my place, I just didn't know if painting over this semi gloss would be a problem.

Thanks again
