I don't know if I'm posting in the right place but, when hanging window boxes do you need the wooden brackets underneath or can you screw straight into the house from the inside of the box? I've seen window boxes with and without brackets on houses. I have vinyl siding also if it makes a difference. Thanks!

It would depend upon how and how well made the boxes are. Not knowing, I recommend brackets screwed into the studs.

thanks. they're well made, thick wooden boxes, from The Mill Store which sells unfinished furniture. I ask only because I like the look of the window boxes without the brackets underneath.

The key would be the intrisinc strength of the construction of the box. If they look sturdy, hang them up. I don't think the world will end if they start to come loose.
