Advantages/Disadvantages. I'm either buying the bostitch coil nailer or the Senco stick nailer......I've never owned a framing nailer and could use some advice. I'm also buying a roofing nailer if anyone has thoughts on that.....
Thanks

Ron:
You must have stumped everyone!
I only own a brad nailer and a 2" stapler but have used framing nailers a couple of times and find the coil nailer to be a little awkward at getting into tight spots.

Ron, the guys I've worked with and talked to-guys who make their living with them all (95% at least) like the Hatachi bestof all. I have a U S Nail brand, which is a clone of Hatachi, and was 150 cheaper then- 5 years ago-but I only used it 10-20 hrs a week on average. Ive used sencos nailers and staplers and they all worked well. Don't know about durability-some looked fairly old, and had been used by commercial sub-contractors, so they must have been pretty good. I have both a 1" crown and a 1/2" crown Bastich staplers, and have used then on countless roofs and fences, respectively, with never a problem, but my Bostich framing nailer only lasted a couple of weeks before I had problems with it-mostly gaskets. I kept fooling with it until it was out of warrenty, threw it in bottom of work bench where it has been for 5-6 yrs. HTH, chuck

depends how much framing you do. Coil nailers hold way more nails. but with the stick nailers, you can always put some sticks in your tool belt

I don't do much framing at all. The reason for getting the framer and roofer is that my brothers and I are building two houses in the next 2 years. One for my brother we already started, and mine next spring.....After that it will only get occasional hobby use. I would want something thats kind of versatile I guess, that can be used for smaller projects. I've heard the coil nailers are nice cuz they hold more nails but are harder to get into tight spots. Also I believe all the holders for the nails are plastic? Haven't heard nothing bad about a stick framer cept' it don't hold as many nails as a coil nailer! ......ahhhh the agony...
I did get the chance to use the Senco framepro 601 over the weekend. Liked it. Thats all I have to go on though.....
Thanks,
Ron

When I was in the market for a framing nailer about 4 years ago, I spent a lot of time talking to the guys on the jobs I watch about brands of nailers they use and Bostich and Senco came up most often; I bought a Senco. Interestingly, everyone used stick nailers. In fact, no one even mentioned coil nailers; maybe they weren't around at the time?? I still don't see coil nailers, except for the roofing nailers.

I bought the FramePro, I think it's a model 600. I have had absolutely no trouble with it and I really like it. Never had a jam. Wish I had had one years ago when I built my own house.
