THE TOP OF MY CHIMNEY HAS A POURED CONCRETE FINISH THAT IS IN VERY BAD SHAPE, CRACKED AND CHIPPED. WHEN IT RAINS (AND IS WINDY) PARTS OF THE CONCRETE FALL TO THE ROOF, THEN TO THE GROUND.
I'M PLANNING ON CHIESELLING OUT THE LOOSE AND DAMAGED COPNCRETE AND POURING NEW OVER THE OLD. I'VE BEEN GIVEN SEVERAL BITS OF ADVICE. USE DRY MIX, USE AN EPOXY ETC....
THE BRICKS THEMSELVES ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, JUST THE CONCRETE TOP IS BAD.
ANY ADVICE, HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

What I did was remove all the cement on top of the brick. Then mixed up a small batch of new mortar mix and applied it evenly around on the tops of the brick then laid down a 16x16 cement paver on top. Looks nice and works great. Good luck.

We put up a form around the chimney so the cap will have a drip edge all around the chimney of 1 1/2"and about 2" deep at this edge.fill this form with a rich mix of cement and that this cap will slope down some from the flue tile to this edge . Then put a clear water seal on the bricks;) ED
