Ihave just finished making a computor desk out of MDF
and want tostain it and get a woodgrain finish .
how do I get this finish

MDF is wonderful for paint. If you want wood grain, you must first have wood grain. MDF is essentially sawdust and glue. If you stain it, it will look the same as it does now, just another color.
You could veneer it, though.
Realistically, MDF is for paint.
