Anyone have a schematic for an AZ27S0/17 boom box? Resistor R1720 is burnt beyond recognition and I need it's value. The value begins with a 4 and it is the series resistor with the tape drive motor. I guessed at ~47 and I threw in a 33..ran too hot to touch but the unit functioned normally. I may still have a component problem but I have to start there. Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!

If 33-ohm resistor works, most likely your replacement resistor is 47 ohms. If you use 47 ohms, it will run a bit cooler since the higher resistor value will limit for less current flow therefore a bit cooler.

This resistor will always run hot if it is in series with the motor. That is why it was the first component in your boom box that went bad. You might want to replace it with a bigger wattage value (e.g currently 47 ohm 1 watt, you may want to use 47 ohm 2 watt instead.)

I went out and bought some 1/2 watt 47 and 470 ohm resistors and I think that you are right, it looks like 47 is the winner. Everything works correctly but the resistor gets smokin' hot! When I remove a wire from the motor, my voltage jumps up and the resistor cools off. I'm wondering if the motor is bad and causing a loading situation????? I found a replacement motor and I'm debating on getting it, what do you think about this possability? The factory told me that "these things are made all over the world, schematics and parts are not available, and they are meant to throw away when they break". I would agree but I owe a friend a favor so I'm giving it a shot.
