just moved to a house our fireplace looks so ugly previous owner paint must have about 2 or 3 coat of paint anything can i do to remove or make look better ?

I bought an investment property years ago that had a hideous looking fireplace treatment. Evidently, the hearth had deteriorated and someone put an even uglier tile over it. Last year, when it was time for new carpet, I tore all the brick off and build a wood fireplace surround for it. I put 12" x 12" marble tiles around the opening and on the floor. It really gave it an updated look.
