Dear diy,
We have a termite damaged 2nd story window sill. It has been re-treated by the termite guy. He suggested filling the hole with wood putty. When my husband started vacuuming out all the "stuff" left by the termites, he noticed the hole is pretty big.
(2 x 2" in a triangle shape ) It goes all the way down to what looks like pink fiberglass insulation.
Should we just try to replace the sill (which I think is the simplest solution) Or... should we replace the entire window?
The opposite side of the sill is also somewhat water damaged.
If we do replace the window, how do we measure it for a replacement in the same opening?
Thanks Tina S

What kind of window? That will determine how easy or difficult replacing the sill will be. Water damage on the sill would indicate that it's time for a new window.
And termites on the second floor?? Don't know where you are, or what kind of termites you are dealing with, but around here we have subterrainian termites -- they live in the dirt. They would have to do a LOT of damage to get to a second story window!!
