I am about to clean --> sand --> finish my exposed ceiling and was wondering if someone could recommend something to use to scrub off the 80 years worth of dust before i sand? I don't know if using something water based would damage the wood.
Thanks

My favorite cleaning product is spic and span. Cleans off most everything, does not normally require rinsing. The transient wetness won't harm the wood.
I would run a vacuum over it first, if possible.
