Thank you for your help. My problem seems to be bigger than just a wet plaster wall. There is no existing lath! Everyone I ask says they have nevr seen a plasterd wall with no lath. Now I have a huge hole in the wall. I'll keep trying to find out what my next move should be.

If the wall is continuously wet, then you have to fix that first.
I'd just rip out the old plaster and install new plaster using galvanized metal lath.
A really good book about plaster is "Plastering Skills", by Branden and Hartsell. It's the standard trade educational manual from the 1950's.

Hello & welcome aboard.
If the wall is wet all the time, that's gotta be fixed prior to dealing with the plaster. Once that's dealt with, I'd hang sheetrock, take 1/3 the time as doing it in plaster & lath, & much easier to come out with a true & flat wall.
