I recently purchased a used woodstove, but in my excitement at having found a good deal, I failed to fully asses the size, but made an eyeball guess. Now that I have removed my old woodstove I find that the firebox opening on my fireplace is about two inches too narrow and tapers( which had I thought about it I would have known). Now my problem is that I can't get my stove pipe & flue anywhere near the stove. Using elbows or bent pieces of pipe are out of the question because I only have about 6 inches of clearance between the stove and the fireplace. Is there anyway to "shave a little" off the sides of the fireplace(it's brick lined) to make the stove fit better?

ace15,
Sorry to say...no way unless you want to rebuild it. This is going to be decision time.
Good Luck!

Okay, that's kind of what I figured. What about this? Is there anything I can do to get around the low clearance and try to get to the exisisting flue. I saw some stuff called oval flex(the pipe is oval coming off the stove), but I think that is just for relining the chimney, right? Option number 2 would be to drill through the cobblestones surrounding the fireplace opening and getting to the chimney that way? What do you think? Thanks.

ace15,
Hard to say what you should do based on the current conditions. I'd suggest getting someone over there to look at what you have and then decide to do whatever is necessary. This should be done by a licensed installer anyway.
Good Luck!
