My new Real Estate office is brick. One area has white stuff that I believe is lime leaching from the motar , also it needs a good cleaning. Can I scrape the white stuff and have it water blasted ?

Hi,

The white powder is efflorescence
Efflorescence means deposit of white crystals of salts on the face of brick masonry.

As they are salts, they are water soluble and generally will disappear with normal weathering. Also these salts can be removed by dry brushing or with clear water (depending of the climatic conditions).

My advice: don't use chemical products, they can modify some properties of the brick

Hope this helps,

Glad to know that I helped!!.

Just an additional note: wash on sunny day, to be sure that the water will evaporate 100%

Sometimes efflorescence appears again, don't worry. You will need to wash again
