I have purchased a screen door to mount in front of my front door.
The new 32" PVC screen door fits perfectly in the opening and up against the outside side of the "stop" (of course the regular door fits perfectly on the inside side of the "stop").
This leaves no room for a hinge, since if I mount one half of the butt hinge on the screen door, the other half would have to mount on the stop which extends 1" in from the edge of the door.
If I were to mount it this way, the door would bind when attempting to open it.
Rather than mortising the "stop" to fit the hinge, I would love to find a hinge that had an angle allowing it to be mounted on the "stop" and the hinge pin to be at the outmost edge of the door to accept the screen door mounting.
Any ideas?

If the house is old enough to have the stop as a separately installed item, you could remove it and mortise beneath it.

The house is 2 years old. I think the door came pre-hung, and the stop doesn't look to easy to remove to work on. If needed, I can chisel out (mortise) the stop, but I was hoping for an easier way out.

Oh. A door as new as that would likely have the stop milled into the frame as one piece.

Just as a followup.
I trimmed 1/8" off the side of the vinyl screen door with a table saw. I installed these "no mortise" hinges I found at the Depot. The "no mortise" hinge, is a very thin (or flat) hinge that fits.
