I have a showerstall with ceramic tile, several of the bottom oneshave come loose,&Ive removed them.Behind where the tiles were is cement board with it looks like cardboard where it was glued to.At the bottom there is a lip on the base ,there is a gap approx. 1inch where it is not even with the cement board, my question, do I need to fill that gap in&if I dowhich type of filler would I use?

The cement board behind the cardboard you describe - what color is it? When you scratch it with you fingernail, does any come off? Does it seem soft when wet?

The description of the carboard and loose tiles sounds like your shower surround is not constructed from cement board, but made from drywall (or greenboard, a type of drywall) instead

If your surround is drywall, the permanent solution is to remove the surround down to the studs and construct it properly, As any fixes you make now are only temporary.
