We are painting our kitchen a white or off-white. Then we want to allow our children to create their own works of art on the walls.
Should we use a gloss or semi gloss paint? What type of paint will we need to use for the mural painting? Is there some type of clear sealer that can be used to potect the mural when it is dry? Will all this be a huge pain later when we decide to do something else? This all began with the desire to remove the wallpaper border and then paint our own. And I don't know why I used the term we since my husband has no clue what I am planning. But then he doesn't paint!

I would paint the walls semi-gloss in a busy kitchen for ease in cleaning. It scrubs better than flat. For the artwork, semi-gloss would be a good choices as well. I would not worry about the artwork. You can always paint over it later. A good coat of primer and a finish paint will cover most anything. Paint does not require any protective coating. It will be durable on its own.

Hope this helps.
