Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - blind nailing question

For those of you with professional experience in installing solid wood floors. When you are blind nailing the floor, do you only nail into floor joists? This would require marking the joist on the baseboards and marking a chalk line for each joist on the 15 lb. felt paper. Or do you just nail every so many inches, joist or no joist?

Best would be through subfloor into rafter. As long as your subfloor is atleast 3/4" thick plywood or OSB. Any location will be acceptable. I pry the last boards tight and top nail at an angle toward the wall. This gives a better hold than straight down.

I have read about the nailing at an angle for the last boards. When you do this, do you have to countersink the head more, so that the edge of the head does not stick up?

I use a finish nail gun and it is set to countersink the nail. For hand nailing set the nail far enough below surface so that the filler does not pop out. 1/16" or more.
