I have a YFM250 4-wheeler and my 8 year old daughter likes to drive it (with myself on also). She has been doing this for a couple of years now and she knows how to handle it fairly well. I am thinking (and will be still thinking for awhile) about letting her go by herself, but not without some kind of throttle stop so that she cannot rev it up too high and go too fast. AM I NUTS? I know she is young, but she has all the protective gear and you should see how she handles the machine! Are there some kind of safety features (throttle stop) that I could obtain? I would like it to be easily removed when I ride it.
Thanks for the response.
Dean

AM I NUTS?

You said it not me. The weigjht of that machine can be disasterous. Get her a lil 80 cc.

Yeah Fred, Your right. Even though she is able to operate the machine, it would sicken me if she decided to ride out of my sight and head off the beaten path and, God forbid, something happens...
I'll just continue to sit behind her on it and save up some $$ for a mini-ATV. Then we can go from there...
My alterior motive was to convince mama that I need a new machine, not my daughter!! HaHa!

Hey Dean,

I'm glad you agree! A smaller machine is fine for your daughter. And, the 250 is perfect for Mom. Thus, you do need a big new machine for yourself, then make it a family event.

8years is a little to young for a 250, but if you want to restrict the the throttle a piece of tubing inbetween the throttle return spring and the cap of the throttle housing will do the trick. Be carefull here accidents take only a split second, and can have everlasting consequences.

IN REPLY TO YOUR QUESTION. I HAVE A 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND A 9 YEAR OLD SON WHO BOTH RIDE THIS BIKE ON A REG. BASIS DOUGHNUTS, WHEELIES, AIR...AND BOTH ARE VERY CAPABLE RIDERS.ANYWAY TO YOUR QUESTION ON THE 300 THE TOP OF THE THUMB THROTTLE COMES OFF WITH 3 SCREWS. THEN JUST DROP IN SMALL SOCKET OR SOMETHING SIMILAR BETWEEN THE THROTTLE ARM AND THE SIDE OF THE CASE. THUS LIMITING THE AMOUNT OF AVAILABLE THROTTLE TO THE ABILITY OF RIDER. :thinker:

as in 99% of all atvs on the market it should already have a throttle stop./ they r always located on the side of the rectangular housing immediatley above the thumb throttle lever. crank that screw all the way in and turn in out to set how fast u want the machine to go! easy as that!!
