Hello all.

Does anyone have an idea of sheetrock installation/finishing costs(no paint). New construction-addition w/ valted ceiling-max height of 11'. Just want to be prepared when those quotes start rolling in.

Thanks
Anthony

Hi Anthony,

First thing you need to figure out is an estimate of what the total sq ftg of rock is that will be needed. Do a google search for drywall calculators & you'll find several links to on-line tools that will allow you to easily estimate you s/f.

That being said, here in the midwest, I just finished a new residential, small tract home similiar vault as you described. Total s/f was right at 7000s/f, billed the builder $0.61 per s/f materials & labor, house was completed including total spray & knockdown in 8 days.

I just got throug doing 15,800 feet of sheetrock. The foyer, library and family room have 2 story cielings. Every bedroom but one have valts. I only recieved two bids one was for 50 cents a foot. I supply materials. That was sheetrocked installed, taped, sanded and floated. The second bid I got was for 26 cents a foot for the same work. I ended up going with the second guy. He also bullnosed the whole thing for me. For the 26 cents and I supplied all material but the molding. I had to pay another guy to texture the whole thing. I paid him $650 plus materials. I went around to houses being built and found the second guy who I used there. I hope that helps. This is in the Houston area..

Yea I jumped on that pretty fast. They did a really good job on it too. There were 9 guys and finished in 2 days. The tape and float took 2 addional days. and another day to sanding. I am happy with the work.

Just a wild guess here, but were those boys from south of the border? I've seen two large motels built in my area within the past yr that were hung & finished by Mexican crews. I'd consider their work to be good, although myself & lots of other local contractors weren't too happy about these guys importing crews for their work. Funny thing, one of the roofs leaked on the BW they built, management has contacted myself & 3 or 4 other local guys about repairing the damaged ceilings, we all had the same reply, sorry too busy, maybe you could get your original crew to come back & fix them for you.
