I had a wood laminate floor installed in my kitchen yesterday. It looks beautiful, but it sounds hollow and cheap when we walk on it...but the worst sound comes when our two dogs walk on it....it is almost so loud when their claws hit the floor that it is hard to talk over all the noise. I found one website that mentioned using a soundproofing material over the foam-type material. Does anyone know if this would help our problem? Has anyone else even had this problem? I am so disappointed that I could cry! (My floors are the Mannington, click in place kind.)

Hi, welcome to the forums, not a fan of laminate flooring products, which is why I don't install them, but I have seen them installed & I do recall the guys putting down some sort of rolled foam (insulation or soundproofing I don't know) over the subfloor prior to laying the click together stuff.
I was able to locate this link to contavt their customer service people, I'd give them a try. Hope that helps you out. ;)

Just before I received your reply, I had e-mailed Mannington. We were thinking on the same track. They say I will get a response in two days...I hope so. Thanks for your help.

An acoustic underlayment will reduce the noise and moreso if the subfloor is flat within the manufacturers specs. The best test results that I've seen are from Tranquility and Silent Walk. Tranquility is sold by BHK and Wilsonart dealers but have no web site. Silent Walk has a web site. The tests for these products are very similar.
