I saw a ceiling that was done in a new house. They called the texture "california knockdown" .I really liked the look, does anybody know if that is something a do-it -yourselfer can do, too?

Hello Ga Painter and welcome to the forums. Have to say I've never heard of Calf. knockdown, but we do what is simply called knockdown by mixing drywall mud with water until it's about the consisteny of running oatmeal. You then spray it on with an air compressor & a hopper gun. You wail about 20 mins ( this varies depending on humidity, ventilation, how thickly you spray the mud, etc,) you want to mud to just be slightly tacky and then you scrape lightly over it with a knockdown paddle, (Iuse a painter's screen 24" wide on a long handle)
Hope that helps you out.
