I have a thirteen year old Duomatic Olsen Ultramax mid-efficiency gas furnace.

All of a sudden it is making a new noise when it first clicks on and for about 30 seconds. The noise makes me think of squishy wet rubber. It does not make the noise everytime it clicks on. I am not certain but the noise does not seem to be coming from the area where the belt is.

Any idea what this noise could be?

Thanks in advance.

You might check the fan housing and the associated mounts. Most of these have a rubber disc on three legs...Your going to have to turn on the unit using the switch on the side nof the air handler. First put the fan switch on the thermostat to ON and the turn the switch off, open the cabinet that houses the fan motor take a look see around for cracked metal worn rubber discs, ect. ( with a good flash light). Inspect the squirrel cage for debris, you may need a compac mirror for this. If all looks OK, Turn it on, and try determine the noise location. Some units have a safety door switch. If it's the pin style you can usually pull on it and it will override, but the lever style has to be taped down or held with your finger. Be carefull of long hair!! The fan could suck it in!
