The living room in our house has gained stress cracks over and under the windows. What is the best way to fix them? Should the old tape come off and new applied? If so what is the best way to remove it? Thanks

If they are not wide cracks I would use paintable chalking. fill the crack and finger it smooth to the testure you have. The chalking will expend and shrink and will not show the crack again. Most builders use this method on new houses. If they are very wide you will need to tape them. If you fill them with mud and do not tape them they will crack again.

I'd advise cutting the cracks to widen them to between 1/8"-1/4" then mud & tape them, (use the mesh tape) . This is the best way to repair this situation. Hope that helps out.
