Designing Kitchens and Bathrooms - backerboard wall seams?

Hi,

I have all the backerboard up around my tub. I've been trying to figure out what I need to do with the seams (between backerboards, between backerboard and drywall).

I've seen a lot of different suggestions. What's the best solution?

I would apply tape and joint compound. Since you are going to tile, do a good job where the tile stops and drywall begins so your painting will look awesome. NOTE: I assume that the backboard is sitting on top of the tub nailing flange? You don't want this over it and "bulging" out or your tiling job will look terrible!

The joints under the tile just need to be "fire-taped", one coat basically - nothing fancy that requires a 3 coat process- unneccessary. Just make do a one swipe with trowel so it's fairly smooth - no need to sand it.

Tape and thin-set mortar between cement backerboard joints, tape and joint compound between drywall/backerboard seams. :)
