i just put up new walls in my basement i would like paneling in two rooms car siding in another sheet rock in the rest.
do i need anything behind the paneling or car siding like sheet rock or can i nail it to the studs?

Hi nitro,
Welcome to the forums, I'd recommend 1/2" rock behind the paneling, 1/4" paneling isn't very sturdy on it's own, & very hard to patch holes in.
The car siding would probablly be ok attached directly to the studs.
